Rescue. Rehabilitate. Release. Repeat.

We're working to save Connecticut's native turtles one animal at a time, and you can help!

What we do

The Turtle’s Back Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and conservation of Connecticut’s native turtles. Educating the public about these amazing but vulnerable animals is a huge part of our mission. Founded in 2015, The Turtle’s Back serves as a resource for all who seek to help the state’s resident turtle species, including other rehabilitators who may work with turtles as part of their wildlife caseload.

Rehabilitation

First and foremost,
The Turtle’s Back is a
state-permitted wildlife rehabilitation facility specializing in the treatment of injured or sick native turtles of Connecticut.
Our overarching goal is to release healthy animals back to their wild homes.

Education

Turtles are one of the oldest, least understood and most threatened creatures on the planet. We strive to educate the public about native turtles, their plight and how to help them. From school and scout groups to libraries and civic groups, we have a program for all.

Conservation

We believe that saving wildlife is about the big picture: the preservation of species. With five of the state’s eight resident turtle species listed as threatened or endangered, it’s critical to help mitigate threats to their survival as well as treat individual animals.
